Environmental Compliance Analyst (CEQA/NEPA)

Job Summary
Sapphos Environmental, Inc., a growing environmental consulting firm, based in Historic Old Town Pasadena, is recruiting for an Environmental Compliance Analyst. The ideal candidate will have a proven record of accomplishment in California Environmental Qualities Act (CEQA) and/or National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance, project management, technical writing, research, public speaking, and business development.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Manage projects and ensure successful project completion
  • Maintain current knowledge of primary environmental statutes, regulations, and processes
  • Write sections for CEQA and NEPA documents, business correspondence, memoranda, proposals, and various other reports
  • Secure new business for group
  • Maintain and grow business relationships with clients
  • Effectively communicate in meetings

Qualifications / Required Technical Skills
  • CEQA and/or NEPA experience
  • Environmental consulting experience
  • Project management experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Skills in using personal computers and be knowledgeable about MS Office

Minimum Requirements
  • Master’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Planning, Environmental Management, Ecology, Earth Sciences, or other related fields
  • Two (2+) years of relevant experience or Bachelor’s Degree with five (5+) years of relevant experience.

Environmental Analyst Intern (CEQA/NEPA)

POSITION:

Sapphos Environmental, Inc. is looking for interns to work in the Environmental Compliance Group. Under the direction of an Environmental Resource Coordinator/Specialist, this position would require the intern to perform entry-level work pertaining to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and its application. Each intern is assigned to work on a project under the supervision of a mentor. Interns are responsible for preparation of written documentation of work efforts including research, coordination, and field studies. Interns are expected to assist with environmental documentation activities and projects while becoming experienced with the CEQA review process. Exposure to a wide range of entry-level environmental consulting and related activities can be expected. The internship program provides the potential for a full-time position at Sapphos Environmental, Inc.

This internship is designed to assist interns in refining their career and academic objectives. The goal of the internship program is to provide the applicant with the following:

  • Experience working as an environmental consultant
  • A balance of office and field work
  • Increased knowledge of the environmental laws and regulations
  • A broad range of experience related to various fields of the environmental consulting industry
  • Experience working as a team to approach problem solving in a private small business enterprise

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

  • Assist the Environmental Resource Coordinator/Specialist with professional and/or specialized services
  • Research and compile data for projects
  • Prepare and update graphics and reports as required
  • Review relevant documents, studies, reports and related applications for compliance with city and state regulations
  • Perform responsible technical work related to environmental analysis

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • University undergraduate or graduate school student with interest in environmental consulting
  • Must have computer skills in Word, Word Perfect, Excel
  • Must have outstanding writing, analytical, and communication skills
  • Must demonstrate strong organizational abilities, interpersonal skills, and a willingness to learn

EDUCATION:

Current student pursuing a degree in a related major or recent graduate from a recognized undergraduate or graduate level program (preferably a MS, BS, or BA in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Geography, Ecology, Urban Planning, Earth Sciences, or a closely related field).

COMPENSATION:

The internship program requires 32 hours per week for 12 weeks total. The salary for this position is determined by level of education and experience.

Wildlife Biologists

POSITION:

Sapphos Environmental, Inc., an environmental consulting firm, is looking for a mid-level wildlife biologist to work in the Resources Management Group (RMG). Under the direction of the RMG Manager, this position would require the wildlife biologist to concurrently manage multiple projects, including the coordination and scheduling of deliverables and project budgets; design and conduct field studies; prepare technical reports; respond to Request For Proposals (RFPs) and Requests for Qualifications (RFQs); and prepare and provide input to proposals.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

  • Performance of field surveys and preparation of biological resources technical reports as both standalone documents and for inclusion in more complex environmental compliance documents
  • Field work (identification of fauna, identification of habitats and sign, and reading and interpreting topographic maps and aerial photographs)
  • Research (literature review, database searches, coordination with resource agencies and experts)
  • Project management (project budgeting, scheduling, and coordination with other biologists and staff members, including subconsultants)
  • Proposal input and preparation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledgeable about southern California fauna, distribution and habitats
  • Knowledge of rare/endangered/threatened species/issues as they relate to southern California
  • Knowledge of the federal and California Endangered Species Acts; and California Environmental Quality Act is desirable
  • Skills in effective verbal and written communication
  • Skills in using personal computers with knowledge of MS Office
  • Federal 10(a) Permit to conduct protocol surveys for Desert Tortoise, Mohave Ground Squirrel or other federally-listed species as well as California Department of Fish and Game Memorandum of Understanding for state-listed species is a plus
  • Experience with environmental consulting a plus

COMPENSATION:
The salary range for this position is from $47,840 to $81,120 per year and is determined by level of education and experience.

Office Coordinator/Executive Assistant

POSITION:
Under the direction of the Administrative Manager, the ideal candidate for this position must be able to interact professionally with clients and positively represent the company. Proposal Coordinator

POSITION:JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Marketing Manager, the Proposal Coordinator will primarily be responsible for coordinating and tracking of all marketing material and proposals for the firm. Good writing skills are necessary. Additionally, the Proposal Coordinator will assist in marketing and business development activities, database management, marketing research, web site maintenance, copywriting, administrative support, and other duties as assigned. Candidates must be able to work in a fast paced and rigorous atmosphere.

CORE DUTIES:

  • Track and coordinate proposals and other marketing documents
  • Write proposal sections
  • Update and maintain marketing database
  • Manage internal marketing efforts (i.e. Conferences, client-related events)
  • Consistently implement defined policies and procedures
  • Complete other duties as assigned by Marketing Manager

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum three (3) year of relevant experience in marketing-related field
  • BA in marketing, communications, English, or a related field preferred
  • Experience with copywriting and editing
  • Familiarity with PhotoShop, PowerPoint, Illustrator, presentations/briefings, proposal writing, marketing materials development, and databases preferred
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent deadlines specifically for documents
